While i read this [i made] :
Posttraumatic stress disorder is a common anxiety disorder that develops after exposure to a terrifying event in which grave physical harm occured or was threatened. PTSD is a real illness. You can get PTSD after living through or seeing a dangerous event, such as war, a sexual attack, come close to dieing or a bad accident. PTSD makes you feel stressed and afraid after the danger is over. It affects your life and the people around you.
Stigma is when you cross a street to avoid someone because you don't understand why they're acting different. It's that combination of fear and ignorance that makes us avoid or ignore people different than ourselves. Most people look at PTSD as a weakness
so how can we admit to something that appears to be a weakness?
Someone suffering from ptsd might abuse alchahol and drugs or might do things that are not normal, they do this to block out the horrifying memories from the past and this can cause people to look at them as if they are psychos. If you have ptsd and you are living behind a door and you feel ashamed and weak for having it, well don't be.. open that door and step foward, ask for help. Even if you don't actually want to tell anyone that you are suffering from ptsd, well i have a sollution, go on the internet! There are heaps of people on the internet that are happy to help, when i was researching for this assignment, i found a page where someone had posted a List and Steps on how to treat ptsd, this was given to the public, so no one has to know if you are suffering from it, and all the steps could be done at your own home, even without medication!
What might you be experiencing if you have PTSD?
--> The incident will be stuck in your mind.
--> You might be abusing alchahol or drugs
--> Struggle with school, uni or work
--> Feel depressed, panicky or anxious all the time
How to support a friend with ptsd?
If you have a friend that you think he or she has some of these posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, then my advice would be to follow the following:
--> Avoid being judgmental
--> Respect your friend's limits
--> Make sure that you have ways to contact each other
--> Encourage your friend to stay with their medication
Thank you for listening and watching my presentation.
