How to Revive Pure Activity 101
Mageof Pain4 replied to Mageof Pain4's topic in Clan Discussion Archive
Meh. It isn't that hard to get a company supporting a game as long as you remain professional about it. -
Step 1: Contact Jagex for prizes for the following events. Prizes could be anything from 1mill gp, to batches of runescape items (like 5 dds, 500 sharks/swordfish...etc, whatever). Example: 1st place: 1mill to each player. 2nd place: 500k to each player. 3rd place: 250k to each player. Now you couldn't do this for full outs or 30vs30s, but for 10vs10s or 5vs5 events, you definitely could get Jagex to hand out prizes like these. For fullouts/30vs30s, you could negotiate that all players who participated would get like 400 Swordfish or X amount of a certain item. Or dumb it down to 50k per player for the winning teams. Step 2: Organize bi-weekly tournaments & weekly events: - Do a bi-weekly tournament that is 5vs5 and 10vs10 only. Decide if it is F2P or P2P (alternate between these) and then do 3 sub categories (90-99, 80-89, 70-79 in a single combat stat or by combat level). - If it is a 5vs5 tournament, you're get a lot more teams signing up because it is easier to get 5 people instead of 10 people. 5vs5 would also mean less people win prizes, so you could have larger prize pots from Jagex. Imo, 5vs5s would be the best way to go. Doing fullouts/30vs30s means only a few clans will be able to participate. Doing 5vs5s means any team or any person from any clan can make up their own team and participate in this. - It doesn't matter what clan you're in, as long as you get 5 people, even if they're all from 5 different clans. Or just take 5 people from your clan and be called MM#1, MM#2, MM#3 or FOE#1, FOE#2...etc. Do whatever. - EVERY WEEK organize a draft. Everyone piles into an IRC channel or a vent/mumble. Anyone can show up. It may be a good idea to place restrictions of 70-79, 80-89, and 90-99 stat (str, range, magic, NOT COMBAT) drafts. So you don't have level 50s with your level 70s. - Then captains are volunteered or picked. These captains then go through one by one picking players until all of the captains have a 5 man team or 10 man team. The number of captains is the amount of players you have divided by 5 or 10. - The teams then mass at Edgeville or they go to the Clan Arena thing. They then add each other or join someone's CC. Once the teams are organized everyone is assigned what team they're playing against. Captain 1 would play Captain 8, Capain 2 players Captain 7...etc. - It's done in a tournament style until one team wins. Now if you've contacted Jagex for prizes and they've agreed, your winners would get their prizes. The only things to work out is if you are allowed to wear armour or not, if there's defense limits, where you will do your 5vs5 (BH, PvP, Clan Arena...etc), whether or not you can pray or protect...etc. Also figure out times and dates...etc. Do this and I guarantee pure activity will skyrocket, especially if Jagex is handing out GP prizes to winning teams. And especially if Jagex is handing out prizes for 1st place to 4th place, so that even if you don't come first, you still have a shot at winning something, which will motivate everyone to at least try and come fourth instead of giving up before they have even lost. EXAMPLE: For a draft: January 8th @ 2PM EST, everyone goes into #PUREDRAFT if they have a 90-99 stat in S/R/M. 100 people show up. You then get 20 captains. You then start with Captain 1, ask him who they want to pick, they pick, you then pm that person their team or you assign them to a team in some other way. Then you repeat for each captain, 4 times. Going from Captain 1 to Captain 20, then Captain 20 to Captain 1 and back and forth. Once you have the teams you make the tourney bracket, assign what team is playing who. You tell all of the captains who they're playing and give them the other Captain's contact info. They then figure out a spot to play and organize their fight within 5 minutes. Everyone has 10-20 minutes to get their fight completed & reported. If not, both teams are disqualified. No bullcrap from whiny 13 year olds. Teams do their first round fight. They report it. Then, the winning teams move on to round 2. Complete their round. And continue until the finals. Winning team is then reported to Jagex & they receive their 200k each or whatever prize Jagex decides on. If this was a bi-weekly tourney, the prize would be higher like 1mill each, but because it is a draft it is only 200k. 2nd place could get like 100k. 3rd would be 50k along with 4th getting 50k, unless you do a 3rd/4th match to decide who gets 50 kand who gets 25k. ----- So who wants to try this out? Who can contact Jagex and organize this or attempt to? There should be no reason for Jagex not to support events like this. If anyone is seriously going to try this out, I'll gladly sit around and give my opinion on things. I don't know if this was tried before but to those who I talked to, it hasn't been tried. The main reason activity should increase is because pures are small in numbers. So it would be hard to get 10-20-30 people, but if you do 5vs5s, it is easy to get 5 people. So beginner or new pures can easily find a team, or get picked in a draft. So it's easy for newer pures to get in on the fun. Also because of the prizes. Thoughts?

Stay with men. Best option for every reason.

If I ever open a clan again, I'm going to keep it to straight 5vs5 or 10vs10 mini wars and not full outs or 30vs30s. If we did fullouts we'd barely pull enough opts to be on an equal standing with currently established teams. Other than stealing secondary pures from top clans to play with us, the only other way is to go around spamrecruiting on the pvp or BH worlds. Any team that opens now would need to keep a tight bond or community within the clan in order to stay together. If a team re-opens and masses to a large base of pures, more than likely issues will arise from having too many people. I don't think a team can open and fast track their way to the top 5 in under 2 months in the current state pures are in. If it happens it won't be a lasting team.

Cp and EoP are better in F2P than MM.

I think these clans should put their ego's away and learn to pk again. -
The Most Useless Skill In Runescape?
Mageof Pain4 replied to penguinz0's topic in General Discussion
They are all quite 'useless', but Jagex has made it so that it seems they do serve a purpose, when in actuality, you could go through Runescape without ever needing any of the non-combat skills (except for quest requirements). Why? You gain so much money from combat you could just buy what you need from shops, not players, and level to 99 that way. They want us to think that the skills are inter-connected (Farming -> Herblore;Woodcutting;Agility;Magic: Smithing -> Mining;Defense;Attack;Magic), but in all honesty these connections are not 'solid' enough to make the skills moe useful than having a ton of GP. Any of those 'connections' can be bridged by having 2mill or more. Through combat you can gain anywhere from 10mill to 200m an hour. No skill will gain you that much money consistently ever. You'll barely ever be able to make 1mill/Hr with the skills that are most favourable with prices right now. This lopsidedness makes skills useless. There is no point to reach level 99 in a non-comat skill for any reasons other than: - To brag - It looks 'nice' - Rank higher on the Hiscores You think it will serve you better? Dgaf it and go to God Wars and you'll make enough money to cover everything you'd have gotten from whatever skill you would want to train to 99. Furthermore, the PCR materials needed in order to make these skills useful are getting too expensive. In majority of cases if you buy the required items to make an end product, you will lose money. Fletching, Herblore, Smithing, Magic, Farming...etc. If you buy item X and item Y to make product N, product N will cost less than X+Y. So what is the point? You're not getting rewarded for that level 80 or level 99 you have in that skill at all. Your time and effort you've put into that skill is not getting rewarded by being able to make even a 100gp profit. Some skills will appear to become more useful as prices change and fluctuate but ultimately you're better off doing something combat related. ------ If you want to skip the above though and 'think' the skills are useful in some other way, then I'd say the most useless skill would be a tie between Woodcutting, Firemaking, Hunter, & Prayer. The easiest thing to know is that the skill that was the least thought out upon release was Hunter & Dungoneering. Most likely Hunter by a hair. There is no point to Hunter other than what Hunter provides to us from the skill itself. Other skills do not require it, it does not affect anything in Runescape at all and why do we need to have a skill that teaches us to 'catch' animals that exist in only several remote locations? Sure you get chins, spottier capes & some other useful items but they're not mandatory or required for something else in any other skill. You didn't get these items without having to have level 60 in another skill, you just got them. Hunter is just all inner-connected, not inter-connected. There is no reason why we need to learn how to trap & catch animals when this is not a part of Runescape at all. There is seriously no reason to have Hunter in the game. It does provide useful items but what was the point of Hunter, besides the items we got from it? Hunter, Summoning & Slayer should have all been inter-connected somehow. Would have made them stand on their own and provide uses for the end-product of these three skills in combat or in non-combat skills. Instead these skills do not overlay unless one of the items they provide are useful for that skill. But the skills themselves do not play off of each other like how Mining & Smithing do, or Woodcutting & Fletching do, or Range & Fletching (for training). Slayer is a solid skill in its own right but it still lacks a real purpose. This starts to get into how Runescape has no 'depth' or 'master plan' of how everything works together. It's also why other than technical achievements, Runescape is just a novelty item of the past in my opinion. Regular MMO players should see no interest in Runescape. Pures/Pkers, we only keep playing because the combat is unique, not great, just it is different and feels different than other games like WoW or fail asian MMOs. -
Sounds exciting. Thanks for the lengthy post Nakey.
-
The combat restrictions for pures are too high for F2P and are just right for P2P. Tourneys, leagues = best way to get pures active again.

Awesome.

I've hung around, reading 'some' updates, but haven't really kept it all in mind. So what's all changed since August 08? What has affected training Strength, Range, Magic? What new quests have made P2P gayer/funner? What new mini-games? What new weapons/armour for P2P & F2P? What skills have gotten easier to train and why? What's changed in the ways clans/teams go about pking since August 08? Do pures prefer BH or PvP worlds? Do clans prefer BH or PvP worlds? What are some major changes to F2P pking? Thanks!
-
I care too much about pures and the pure community. Sorry. :/
-
I have no idea about P2P. What in F2P pking has changed drastically since 2008? Has free to play 'gained' anything worthwhile to use in the wildy? I honestly don't know, so the rest of this post might be inaccurate. In F2P you could get away with using melee until you hit the kids with rune at the 50s. Once you hit these guys, your melee could do crap, against anyone with 40+ defense, when you only have 40 attack. Thus, they either turn to Range or Magic. 99% go range or only pk against other pures in robes. Range at 90+ eats through 40 defense & any rune armour like butter. Consistent 15s+. And this works all the way through up till level 80. At level 80, you shouldn't get there as a pure in F2P. A pure F2P pure should max out at 73 or 70. If they go higher, they're going to run into level 80s that have a lot more HP and their range isn't going to be that big of a deal on their 80ish hp. My point is, unless something has happened to rune armour or something better than rune armour is usable in F2P pking, F2P pures should still be living quite comfortably. In my opinion P2P is what has taken a lot of damage from all of the updates, 'forcing' pures into 'getting' defense. 1vs1's in F2P should be a blast still. Group pvp in F2P...fails. -- So I don't think it's a huge deal to 1vs1 someone in full rune at my cb level of 70. My range & prayer are going to tear them apart. If this 'soak' thing is 'useful', I'll just use magic and go back and forth and hybrid. It still sucks to not have anyone to 1vs1 with consistently though. Though then again, it is pretty hilarious to see someone in Mithril, pvping in F2P with their 20 defense, with like 75 range and 52 prayer, dealing 15s instead of 17s, and having no other combat type to switch to. It's an lol moment.

How long does the pure community have left?
Mageof Pain4 replied to P0ke N Die's topic in Clan Discussion Archive
1. No reason to make a pure now or in the past 2-3 years. 2. The point and fun of a pure does not exist, and if it does, it is vastly hindered by Jagex & the game. 3. RuneScape is out-dated, graphically & mechanically. Graphically, we should be having graphics equal to Source through our browser, not this 'fun pixelated' mess we have. We have the internet connections to do it. Also, RuneScape is using an engine that was last overhauled & 'updated' in 2004. You know how hard it is to run & program an MMO? Imagine something of that caliber 6 years old. Imagine your laptop from 2003, even 2005. Try to decode a 720p video on YouTube. Try to run more than 4 tabs in Firefox. Try to do anything you'd regularly do. Apply that to Runescape. This game is already dead from the inside. All that's left is for Jagex to release RS3 or their fourth MMO, since Stellar Dawn & unnamed #3 are not going to be what we like to play. It may be better, but good luck chances. 4. No reason to keep playing. 5. No new pures, no replacements. When you turn 17, life starts to stab you. When you turn 18, you need to get your life in gear. At 19 you're either working or at university while working. RuneScape starts to become...unimportant. You don't have time, you can't spend 2-3 hours every day, unless you want to fail high school or become a uni drop out. The pipe is getting empty. 6. Jagex does not care about us and regard as a burden. "We like immergent game play" my ass. 7. When you turn 15/16, you discover OTHER GAMES..whether it be WoW, Source, DoD, TF2, CoD or console gaming, RuneScape then becomes an antique. 9. There's so many more reasons that take people out of RuneScape, and very little that keep people playing or that attracts people to play as a pure. 10. Some of these points are void because of clans. I realize this, but clans in the pure world are dead. The remaining clans are barely holding on. Every single member wants to quit, but they stay loyal only to what value they hold in the team they're in. That value does not mean much past a certain point unless you're a staff or ranked member. -
Does the main leader of your clan
Mageof Pain4 replied to Sniping's topic in Clan Discussion Archive
pure annihilation apps r open w/ <5 defense, 80+ stat OH WAIT. How active your main leader is determines how well your entire clan is going to do. This applies a crap load for teams with less than 30 members. 1 leader = 30 members. I think this is the ratio that a good leader should be able to handle, all by himself. Going past this point, this is when co-leaders are needed. Co-Leaders, Warlords, Trip Leaders, Event Organizers = useless people, doing work the main leader should be doing but is too lazy or does not care enough. -
I'm really hoping this defense update screws over pures who have gotten 20+ defense and forces them to become a main or to make a new account. Honestly, this update sounds like it is going to screw over anyone who has lower defense, but is playing against those with high level armour on. Defense pures, even with high attack, are going to be be dealing a low amount of damage at an inconsistent rate against armour that 'soaks'. How can a pure that relies on KO'ing a guy by hitting a couple of times in the high 30s going to be able to kill a guy in armour when any hit above 20 is going to be capped. Especially if the other person has enough potions/food to make up the easy damage dealt? If the 'soak' rate is even just 30%-50% of the damage at a rate of 100% of the time, P2P is going to be awful to PK in. If the 'soak' damage is not a fixed amount and its between 1% to X% (depending on the armour), and the rate at which it does soak is not '100%' and it either changes between 1%-X%, or even if it is fixed, it is still screwing pures with defense over. Not only are you relying on a lucky sequence of hits, but now you have another system left up to chance. You have to score more high hits in a row in order to KO someone. If you hit below a certain threshold of damage, the opponent will just be able to eat/use items to heal. So all this 'soak' feature does is makes it harder for pures to 1) Dish out higher damage in order to KO, 2) You'll need a higher attack level to hit through the armours and soak, 3) You need to dish out higher damage in a row a lot more, or else you won't KO, 4) Because of your low defense, you're not going to be 'soaking' anything, you'll run out of food a lot faster than any mains do and you'll be entirely dependent on KOing opponents, you will run out of food/items by the time the main is at half food. Against 1vs1 or 1-10 pures, the issue isn't really there. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, this forces those who got defense to stop being annoying and make a new account, get defense or quit and then we'd see a resurgence of level 1-10s. This could be the lolupdate we need to make it impractical again to get defense of any kind and keep it pure-based. A level 1 defense pure against a main is interesting to think about. In F2P it has always been a disadvantage unless you've used bind + range. Using melee against rune is laughable. So in F2P if the opponent is using rune, it should be the same way it is now with Range & Bind/Magic (because with rune, they'll still be weak to magic and their 'soak' shouldn't be as or effective at all, and if they take their armour off, good game to my rapid 18s). However, if they use green d'hide armour (or whatever armour is used these days in F2P), it pretty much screws the pure over, unless green d'hide doesn't soak a significant amount and it would make R2H/BAing them ezpz for high 20s//30. P2P, I've always hated P2P, but yep. F2P should be feeling like the place to pk anyways. I may be wrong about this as I do not know how the system works, how the rates of either the damage instake or rate that soak is active, how it will be implemented for popular pk armour, if other armour will be more feasible to use for some reason or if they release new items that don't require defense that break through the soak system. Either way, Level 1 Defense Pures are still the best allday. I mean, the only reason to get defense was for better items to use to pk with, against other pures. Hence, the mini-phase of black armour, hence initiate pures for prayer, and then things going all over the place with these elevated pures having to deal with mains, resulting in magic being used A LOT MORE (in combination with the release of ancients)...etc, leading to pures needing higher defense or to gtfo. So eventually you needed MORE defense in order to compete with mains on your combat level = 30-40 defense 'pures'. Meanwhile, if they stayed at 1-5 defense, none of that would have been needed. Just my opinion on why defense pures became so popular. There's also others things like people accidentally hitting a 40-60 while training and getting defense exp, and having no real motivation to start over on their 1300-1500total level pure with three 99s, just getting 20 defense as a last resort (especially with no wildy to return to with a level 1), as well as many other factors, yet none of these levels in defense ever made it impractical to not get higher defense. While a long time ago it was impractical to have 2-39 defense. Now, there's reasons which make you stand on par with just basic rune armour at level 80, while dealing out crazy high hits. This updates takes this away from defense pures and is definitely a reason to not have 2-39 defense. So we'll see. Also, pures are borderline dead. You say 100 pures? I like to remember back to the days of W1, W3, W4, W11-15, W17, W32, & I think a world in the hundreds was used fequently, with having well over 400 pures in low level (1-10) at Edgeville, Varrock or top left monastry. I specifcally rememeber level 3s-40s dominating the entire Varrock wildy scene. Not just in the 1-3 area, but dozens of them, like a mini-W1 or W2 focused in on that area, up until level 5 or 6. It was packed. I also remember the fun of it being half multi, and half single and doign 1vs1s there or just getting 2-3 guys and dragging the kids into multi, binding them and all trying to KO the guy. Or the level 20 or level 30 crews of randomly grouped together people. The kids spamming 'Follow, level 20s, for Hills" being spammed dow nat the varrock church or at the bank. And then seeing this ridiculous amount of 70-140 opt turn outs for these kids in a matter of minutes. And then getting caught in a level 20 battle between these two (soemtimesthree) teams and lagging my screen hardcore at Hills, when a group of level 50 pures would come in and also cause me to lag even more. I remember teams, NOT CLANS, dominating hills on W17/W32/W1/W3. Teams of 4-10 people, just running through those trees or at the lava curve. Teams besting CLANS because they knew how to hug the trees properly. I remember all of the worlds mentioned above having at least 2-4 teams per world, with 3-7 pure clans/teams roaming around at hills. I remember teams also doing the exact same thing at Castle. Or brave level 60 pures taking on level 80s at Castle. Or luring kids into Castle. Or trying to hold down that Castle by having everyone stand in one dot behind the Castle doors, and then luring another team or individual onto the bridge, binding him and everyone running out and wrecking the crap out of them. I remember asking my team: "RR or Ruins?", "Moss or Dawrves?", "Do you want to take on Team X, Team Z, Team N, Team U, Team R or Team T?" Having options. Having the ability to find random pure clans not mentioned on any pure forum and having a good run-in. I remember being able to 1vs1, team or clan pk at any time of the day, with my team or with others or complete randoms. Pures & mains & pking are borderline dead. '100 pures' is dead. Having even just 1000 pures on a single world is still dead. There was always more than at least 4k pures actively on doing something in the wildy. Whether they were level 20s or level 70s or inbetween. And now I'm mad that I had to remember all of this and type it out.

Well, this will actually help pures. It won't help pures against mains, but it'll create an opportunity, or it will make everyone who got defense ragequit. Everyone who is 1 defense, can just play others who are 1 defense, normally. If you get 20 defense, you're not even worth playing against with 1-10 defense, because you will 'soak' the damage. 20 defense pures will be playing against people with rune or higher armour, and the 20 defense pures are going to need to get 99attack to hit through it, which is going to put their combat level up, which is going to put them against possible barrows. If the 'soak' rate is high on armour, having 20 defense is pointless. Having 30 defense is even more pointless. If the rates are high enough, if you got 20 defense, 60 attack and 99 strength, good luck playing against kids tanking you. Your main point of existence, high DPS on any armour, is rendered useless. This should apply to Magic, Range & Melee. So good luck trying to just use magic on kids who wear too much armour. -- This is just my thoughts on it, but those who got 20-40 defense, are going to be screwed over, since these 'soak rates' may be static and if they're high enough are going to pit 20-40 defense users against kids in Barrows. For P2P this might be a problem. For F2P it may be an advantage to get 20 defense, due to the lack of armour past Rune, which is easily hittable with 85+ attack. So P2P pures pking in F2P might have it 'easier'. For levels 1-10 though, it's going to be how it is now. 1-10 pures aren't going to feel the effects in F2P or P2P as heavily as 20-40 defensers are going to. If this turns out how I think it is going to turn out, I have to lol @ how Jagex consistently smacks pures of all types in the face. If the 'soak rates' on the armours do not increase in a linear fashion for the different levels of armour, then 20-40 defense pures should get screwed over. If it is a linear line or if it curves off, 20-40 defense pures might have a slight advantage. This applies to P2P. F2P, either way, 20-40 defense pures still have it easy if they aren't meleeing and are just ranging. Just my speculation on how this could affect pures and how it may not kill them as you may think it will. I honestly believe this sounds like it is going to screw 20-40 defense pures over, hardcore style to the max.
-
It's always been getting easier. 2006 was 'easier' than 2005. This is really the only way it can be with levels that require experience that require enormous repetitive tasks to gain the large amount of exp. Grinding. You're either going to grind hard, and call it boring/slow/uninteresting, or it's going to be super fast. Slayer/Cooking. Runecrafting/Hunter. Smithing + Mining/Fletching + WCing. This is, in my opinion, why Runescape is largely based around combat. And combat has been feeling the limits of Runescape's mechanics for the past 2-3 years, and is ultimately at that breaking point now with fights lasting under 2 seconds to complete.

What uni courses did you apply for?
Mageof Pain4 replied to P0ke N Die's topic in General Discussion
Software Engineering Network Engineering Network Systems Computer Science Computer Programming Pure Mathematics Pure Chemistry Biochemistry Architecture Engineering Electrical Engineering Accounting Universities: Western, Brock, Northwestern, Toronto, Windsor, Queen's, York, and Waterloo Hoping for Western or Waterloo. I had to go through so many forms to allow myself to apply for so many different programs. I hope I get accepted into one of the technology related programs. I like all of these programs but computers are the hobby. -
I tried to quit a lot pre-2007. Couldn't. That adrenaline rush, the dopamine, and every other chemical released while PKing or pk trips or wars, kept me. I hated skilling, I hate Jagex's philosophy towards Runescape, I hated the changes leading up to December 07, I disliked everything but pking. I couldn't quit because I craved those chemicals. It is an addiction. Then comes December 07. Tried to stay for awhile but it did nothing for me. After 2-3 months, I crawled out of my newbie gamer shell and found FPS's. Same kind of style of play, same kind of 'skill', relatively similar. And same chemicals were released I guess. So I transitioned over to FPS's and through that I quit RS. The questions I'm asking myself now are: Did I really quit, or was my addiction just suppressed by the chemicals being released in FPS's? In I'm currently in a rebound to RS? Why do I urge to play RS again after 2-3 years? Unfinished business? I played for the pking/clanning 'rush' (addiction) cause it was just fun (addiction). And friends and making a clan made me feel like I was 'apart' of something that I made.

BRO. IRC isn't working for me. I'm upset. I am happy to see that you guys have still remained practically slaves and kept the channel going. :D Long time no see fr0ze. Lol. I think I love you.
-
Oger? You who I think you are? Nubsauce.
-
I went to W17 and couldn't find any pures at the GE. I disappoint.
-
Hai. - I was wondering if I should come back and try to do low level 1vs1s in F2P as a side thing. Should I bother? - Btw, why can't I connect to irc.swiftirc.net?

The last several pk trips I remember doing was: 1. Meet in Edge in rando world. 2. Walk to usual spots and find out they're all dead/hogged by 40+ defense idiots. 3. Go down to levels 3-9, and kill random solo pkers and watch as our higher and lower levels get wrecked by level 70-80s or stupid 60+ opts 20-40 teams. We were a 50-60 CB team. 4. Walk around Chaos alter after our high 60s and 40s have quit because we can't do anything for them. 5. Walk around aimlessly, hopping like between 3 worlds only, having to dodge and regroup after only running into a 20-man 40+ defense team. 6. Hardly finding any other pure teams within our CB range or even at all. 7. Asking some team if they have enough on for a planned run-in. 8. They don't show up. 9. End. So is it pretty much the same?
