The Spam Forum

I think this topic needs to be addressed because right now I think there has been a huge misunderstanding. Some members are getting warned or having their topics closed or deleted because of this misunderstanding when they wouldn't have otherwise posted that material in the first place. People are getting confused because in most forums the spam forum is usually seen as a place where the rules don't apply because you can spam and flame because we know it's all in good fun and not to be taken seriously, but the approach PW seems to have taken is that they moderate and take posts made in the spam forum seriously.

 

PW needs to make it clear what is allowed and what is not allowed in the spam forum so users don't get wrongfully punished for making bad assumptions. The following is from the rules (As Tyler pointed out to me):

But the first rule in the board rules is no spamming, but it's a spam forum which doesn't make much sense.

 

From personal experience, I've been active on several RuneScape and non RuneScape related forums ranging from sports to Halo, but what has been in common with all of them, is that their spam forum is like a "no rules" environment. Obviously they still won't allow porn and illegal material such as links to viruses or pirating because they agreed to the forum provider that they wouldn't allow that and that's completely understandable. But otherwise, people can flame each other and spam all they want knowing that it's just for fun and not to be taken seriously. I have found this to be the most fun seeing as why these are usually the reasons why people want to post in the spam forum in the first place, just to goof around and have fun.

 

I understand if PW wants to take a different approach with their spam forum and that's fine, but please make it clear to the users what is and what is not allowed to be posted there. Also what type of moderation is to be expected.

 

My suggestion is that PW adopts the kind of spam forum I described above and only moderates it when someone has posted porn or illegal material. They should allow all spam and flame (and whatever else is against the rules) because it is all in good fun like I said. It would make PW a more fun place to post and I'm sure many of the regulars on the spam forum would greatly appreciate it.

 

On a side note, several mods have told me that posting peoples' irl pictures is against the rules but the closest thing I found under the rules would be harassment. The rule itself isn't very clear and if you want to make this a rule, you should add another sub-point under that category.

Every crime against these laws can vary in punishment by moderators.

 

We all have common sense, and we all use it. We know not to close a topic for it being spam in the spam forum. Only if a topic is only going to cause more **** to hit the fan, contains porn or something illegal, or other situations, will it be removed.

Ok, the mods at PW should make it more clear then.

what the **** is the point of a spam forum with a ton of rules? let anything go thats not illegal. There's zero reason for mods to come in and attempt to control it. Notice how problems ONLY ARISE when mods step in and try to moderate the stuff there.
