Love the entries so far - and the amount of them :) Far better than a 3 sig competition.

 

I like Aidan's; Frewin's just looks like a stock that's been altered/contrasted :confused:

 

The water + pier are part of one image - the treeline another - the sky was brushed - birds were added - hippo was added ( :D ) - text and ripples added - reeds added.

I google searched 'nature', scrolled down a couple of pictures and found this:

 

 

Refer to what I said in my first post, adding a hippo, some text and contrast with a bit of brushing of the clouds that were already there. May as well use the original image and slap some text on it...

And to stop all of you whining over this - I made a new one from scratch.

 

 

IF ANYONE WANTS THE PSD - ASK ME.

 

The background is made up of 4-5 stocks.

I then altered colours and blended to make one background scene.

Tinted water and added reflections.

I added in a sky and then added a colour map.

Brushed grass onto the fore-ground.

Added palm trees into the for-ground

Added birds.

Added lighting.

Added border.

Did the other gfx'y type stuff such as colour gradients/highlights/tones and the text last.

 

Infact - just for your sakes - the stocks I used for the main background:
