No, that's the first thing I tried during the dung glitch. You cannot pot to equip the armor during the quest. You have to actually have 40 def.

 

Which means he doesn't have the cosmic armor like you stated earlier. (also hes only 33 def)

I'd like to see these pics because I'm 35 def and have tried potting to get the level but it said I needed 40 def to wear the armor to continue the quest.

 

Ill get ask him the next time I see him in #fatality.
