Get the $999 one tbh, the only difference between that and the $1200 one is the latter has a Blu-Ray component and more memory

Money doesn't bother me really, the extra ram, graphics, blu-ray and hard drive space seems sufficient. The $200 is worth it I think.

 

I basically want the laptop for school work. I live AWAY from home but love to travel back home during holidays therefore I want a laptop, I also want it because my friends all have them (and I have a laptop currently) and there's no easier way to get together and game.

 

Basically school work and gaming, perhaps a little bit of video editing are what I want it for. Should get a few years out of this one yeah?

I've had one for the past few years and it's been great, even while all my other friends expensive brand laptops **** themselves.

 

Also, instead of saying "get this" if you could give me a link to the actual laptop that would be really handy, thanks.

I have the XPS 15 with the 2.2 Ghz Quad core CPU, 2 GB Video RAM graphics card, and 6 GB RAM and it's powerful as hell for a laptop (32 fps for the GTA 4 benchmark on high settings). The best thing about the laptop, however, is that it doesn't get hot. A lot of laptops, and especially some of the previous dells, get so hot that you can't have it on your lap and the heat would make your hands sweat when typing. This one has an incredibly cool bottom/keyboard.

 

Make sure when you get it to get the latest update for your graphics card, it's something a lot of people forget to do and then wonder why they have trouble with different games. Also, Dell let's you customize the laptop - take advantage of it as you can save dollars or get better specs. Do get a warranty in case you drop it (even though the XPS 15 has freefall protection so the laptop should be safe if the height is small) or spill anything on it.

 

Since you want the laptop for school work and for gaming, don't get a Mac. It'll be pretty but you'll pay more for less and Microsoft Office for Macs is pretty horrible. You'll also be pretty limited with the games you can play unless you also install Windows - in which case there wouldn't be any point to buying the Mac at all.
