Buying a new electric guitar

I R Jaketard

Recommended Posts

I've been playing guitar for roughly 4-5 years and as of 2 years I've been getting into metal/metalcore/post hardcore/hard rock. I think it's time to put down my guitar and buy a new one...one that's more suited for metal (better pickups, 24 frets etc.). I'm stuck with a $600 budget, but I've narrowed down my options:

- Jackson DKMGT (used) for $450

- Jackson DXMG for $600

- Jackson RR3 (used) for $550

I looked at many Ibanez's, but I wasn't inclined to get one as they're cheap :\ I also looked for schecters, but it's so damn hard to find them in local music stores. Now, I'm leaning more towards the DKMGT as it has amazing reviews, but the DXMG is just as nice and brand new and the RR3 is just a classic. Opinions?

I have an Ibanez and believe me, you get your bucks worth.

I do not recomment you buy any of them though; never buy a guitar online. Go to your local (or not so local) shop, test a few out, see how they feel in your hands, do you like the vibe they bring? How smooth is the neck?

Every guitar sounds different, even when it looks exactly the same as the next one.

Oh, and don't be too narrow minded. If you enter with your mind focussed on one guitar, believe me, you'll probably walk out of the shop with a different one (':

I'm actually considering an Ibanez S520EX (has EMG 81/85 pickups), used, for $400.
