Rap the discussion, good or bad?

If you think it's only the mainstream rap industry going down the ******* you're wrong.

I mean tbh I can only talk about what I know. I really know nothing about all the

other music industries. As I mentioned in the thread im fairly new to rap. Like i've been

listening to it all my life but only seriously got into it about 2 years ago.

We had a huge argument with one of my friends. We were arguing whether such "artists " as lil wayne, etc. etc. are rappers or pop artists, me implying the latter.

After a lengthy argument we both decided to share with each other a selection of songs which, in our opinions, best represented the rap genre.

Most of his songs were catchy, boring and repetitive. Funnily enough, he said the same thing about my list.

Anyway, this is what I consider to be rap:

Black Star (Talib Kwali & Mos Def) - Respiration

Big Pun - Capital Punishment

Terror Squad & Big L - Bring em back

Terror Squad - Rude boy salute

Lowkey - Hand on your gun

Lowkey & Immortal Technique - Voices of the voiceless

Jurrassic 5 - Concrete Schoolyard

Outkast - Rosa Parks

Lupe Fiasco - Hip hop saved my life

K'naan - Kicked & Pushed

Q-tip & Korn - End of time

Ofc, there're a lot more songs/artists I listen to but this is the general style of music I like :)

quality list my man

Rap is slowing down IMO, as a person who has seen it in different stages.

You've got a lot of these guys transferring over into more of a popish genre.

The only rap I like is LeCrae.

Hip-hop is far from dead, it has just changed, thats all....theres good rappers, and bad rappers, but all in all, it's a beast of a genre, and hip-hop is ill-scrill for-real, I agree there are alot of famous rappers, that shouldn't be famous, and theres alot who aren't famous, who should be famous, it's all about the amount of work you put in, and how you display yourself, and your music, to the public.

Big L, was one of the sickest rappers to ever spit, hands down. R.I.P.

you have a list of "real rap" songs yet you fail to include at least one TUPAC / BIGGIE song...

alot of your selection, although rap are more underground and unheard of.

If you want REAL rap listen to underground stuff, don't listen to that garbage on the radio.

So just because something is on the radio it's automatically ruled out bad? What if one of your 'underground' rappers became known and got on the radio? Does that make him any less good than he was before?

Music preference is a personal choice

Nontheless, hip/hop rap has been studied to be much more popular with low standard of living people usually aged 30 and under in the 1st world countries it comes from.

Its not a genre of music that provokes extraordinary intelligence. Just a mash of expressionism about relationships and "hard" life

two things, plenty of hip/hop rap, expresses the exact opposite.. plenty of artist rap about how rich they are, how famous they are and their above average.... quality of life.

2nd, a lot of music from the 70s, were just a mash of impersonation about drugs, sex.. and being high.

its the new generation, music changes... along with everything else.
