Games are made for players to win/have fun. Since a game like runescape involves more than one player (MMORPG), there is a constant struggle to win.

 

Then again "winning" can be winning wars, having a stable community, being the best in any category.

 

In all honesty what everyone wants is one thing: to have fun. If getting "serious" about a game means having fun, thats what they do lol.

Anyway, people take this seriously because they really have nothing else going for them.
