Emo (play /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of rock music characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics.

I've listened to this stuff for a very long time. You missed the real Emo- post punk founders of the genre. You listed bands that all sound the same, and all look up to Cap'n Jazz. (even though I do enjoy algernon). I don't know why you put Brand New up there hahaha.

Here's what you're looking for:

If it weren't for Rites Of Spring, there would be no emo, screamo, or any of that. This band helped Punk Rock go to Emo.

A band algernon looked up to^

Funny thing about Cap'n Jazz is bands like Scary Kids Scaring Kids and We Are Scientists, made their band names from Cap'n Jazz's songs.

90s emo^

90s emo^

90s emo^

There's so many more, but these guys influenced the music you see today. A lot of top bands covered their music, and even named their bands after their song titles.

Oh definitely, I've been into this stuff for awhile! Sadly they put CaP'n Jazz and bands that sound like that under the sub-genre "Math Rock" and emo. I really hate sub-genre terms, because it complicates music so much.

But if you are into stuff like that, you should check out more post-punk, post-hardcore, math-rock, and emo.

I'll give you more now to check out.

Slint, very influential band in the underground scene.

Drive Like Jehu. Badass, nuff' said.

The Disemberment Plan.

Circus Lupus. **** yeah

I'll throw the old get up kids for kicks.
